They bought a few air mattresses, whipped up a simple website, and Airbnb was born, albeit as "Air Bed & Breakfast."

They realized Craigslist, a popular platform for rentals, could be their golden ticket. They ingeniously allowed Airbnb listings to be cross-posted on Craigslist, driving significant traffic and users to their platform.

This clever hack shot their user base through the roof. People were not just looking for a place to crash; they were seeking unique experiences, which Airbnb hosts were eager to provide. The community started growing, one city at a time, from San Francisco to New York, then on to London and beyond.
